“We have long awaited for this day – a certified Bachelor of Arts degree for Property Management in the Pacific NW.  North Seattle College has produced a number of PM classes over the years, but now they have developed a full BA program..!”

North Seattle College on Monday said it is starting the West Coast’s only bachelor’s degree program for property management.

The bachelor of applied science degree in residential and commercial property management will begin this fall.

The college said the program will help meet a big need in the region for trained property managers. The demand will increase as more office, retail and apartment buildings open as part of the region’s historic building boom.

Property management job openings are projected to grow by 17 percent in the next eight years, 10 percent faster than the national average, according to North Seattle College. Program graduates will be prepared to take jobs with a median annual salary of more than $60,000, the college said.

The program will be offered with evening classes for working students. Scholarships will be available through donations from Seattle companies Goodman Real Estate and WPI Real Estate Services.

Property managers use a variety of skills including customer service, accounting and risk management. Their job is to maximize profit for the owners.

Students will study business, accounting and property management courses. The program also has practicum and internship requirements.

Jesse Cooley, director of bachelor of applied science programs at North, said the property management program is good for business and accounting students who want to move into property management.

Hour-long information sessions about the new program will be held at North Seattle College at 6 p.m. on March 29; 4:30 p.m. on April 24; 6 p.m. on May 23; and 4:30 p.m. on June 21.
